At the Alabama Campaign we are always looking for more resources to share with folks related to sexuality and sexual health. In honor of National Book Lover’s Day, we’re excited to share the recommendations below. A note about age suggestions: these are only our best guess at what might be appropriate for a certain age. We always encourage parents, care givers, and trusted adults to first review the material to determine its appropriateness before giving it to a young person.

Young children (ages 3-6)
Consent (For Kids!): Boundaries, Respect, and Being in Charge of YOU by Rachel Brian
It Feels Good to Be Yourself: A Book about Gender Identity by Theresa Thorn
Let’s Talk about Body, Boundaries, Consent, and Respect by Jayneen Sanders
We Listen to Our Bodies by Lydia Bowers

Pre-teens/Tweens (ages 7-12)
Celebrate Your Body (And Its Changes, Too!): The Ultimate Puberty Book for Girls by Sonya Renee Taylor
Puberty is Gross But Also Really Awesome by Gina Loveless
Sex is a Funny Word: A Book about Bodies, Feelings, and YOU by Cory Silverberg
Vaginas and Periods 101 by Christian Hoeger and Kristen Lilla

Girls and Sex by Peggy Orenstein
Good Sexual Citizenship: How to Create a (Sexually) Safer World by Ellen Friedrichs

Sex Positive Families has also compiled a searchable resource library that we highly recommend. Happy reading!
