This spring the Alabama Campaign commissioned the University of South Alabama to conduct a phone survey of parents with children in public schools to ask them questions about sexual health education. 83% of parents with children enrolled in public schools said that they want their children to learn sex education in school. Other significant findings include:

  • 98% said it was very important that children learn about HIV, AIDS, and STIs
  • 91% said it was very important that children learn to talk to their girlfriend, boyfriend, or partner about birth control and STDs
  • 86% said it was very important that the effectiveness of birth control is addressed

The entire survey results can be found on our website, as can our infographic with key data points. The parent survey is part of a larger Public Policy Project by the Alabama Campaign, in which we will also survey school systems, community stakeholders, and conduct focus groups with students.
